imageISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan skipper Javed Miandad has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to bind spinners to wear half-sleeve shirts in matches, claiming that this would help keep a check on suspicious bowling actions.

"This will enable the ICC to have a close check on the bowling actions of all off and leg spin bowlers, who may exceed the 15-degree extension limit," he told APP.

The 58-year old also asked the world cricket governing body to pay heed to Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal's statement regarding suspicious bowling actions of some other bowlers, particularly of Indian bowlers.

Ajmal in a recent interview accused the ICC of having 'double standards' when dealing with suspect bowling actions. He said that players from Pakistan were "more likely to be reported than those from other (countries)". Ajmal, specifically mentioned the bowling action of India's Harbhajan Singh as one that should have been monitored by the ICC.

After Ajmal's criticism, media reports surfaced that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was considering action against him. But Miandad was of the opinion that Ajmal's statement should be paid attention and taken seriously.

The former skipper said that Ajmal had been Pakistan's match winning bowler and did very well for the team before losing his place after remodelling his action.

Miandad also advised T20 skipper Shahid KhanAfridi T20 skipper to improve his performance and focus on the upcoming T20 series against England rather than the T20 World Cup scheduled in March 2016.

"Afridi needs to improve his bowling and batting as his performance was below par in the T20 series against Zimbabwe," he said.
