imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has approved Rs 1100 million for improvement and necessary construction in National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD) to make it a state- of- the art institute.

The Chief Minister took this decision as chairman of NICVD while presiding over its Board meeting here Tuesday.

Those who attended the meeting include Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, MPA Dr. Sohrab Sarki, Executive Director NICVD Professor Dr. Nadeem Qamar. Principal Secretary to CM Allamuddin Bullo, Secretary Health Dr. Saeed Ahmed, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, Executive Director JPMC Professor Dr. Anisuddin Bhatti and others.

Dr Nadeem Qamar giving presentation to the meeting said that the NICVD was established in 1960 with 300 beds. Currently it has 650 beds. "Keeping in view the growing population pressure there is need to increase the number of wards and beds for which additional staff such as senior and junior doctors, paramedical staff and administrative staff members," he said.

Replying to a question by Sindh Chief Minister the Executive Director Dr. Nadeem Qamar said that the additional financial impact of new appointments of faculty and administrative staff would come to Rs 14.6 million monthly while it would be Rs 175.6 million per year.

The Chief Minister with the consent of the board accorded approval for hiring the required staff.

Dr. Nadeem informed the meeting that the hospital needs at least six medical wards and three surgical wards and each ward should have 100 beds. "We want to establish Vascular Surgery Department also," he said. The Chief Minister approved the proposal.

The Executive Director also submitted the proposal to increase the salary of doctors which was allowed accordingly.

The meeting also approved the regularisation of 115 contract employees of NICVD.
