imageLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here Sunday reviewed in detail various proposals regarding institutional reforms for capacity-building of provincial departments.

The chief minister said that reformation of departments was essential to improve service delivery system, and solid decisions and measures were necessary for changing lives of the nations.

He said, institutions' perfomance could be improved through a system of reward and punishment, besides introducing an IT-based ACR (Annual Confidential Report) system. Punjab government, he added, had built capacity of institutions through information technology.

The Chief Minister said, there was a need to evolve an effective system for improving efficiency of departments for providing relief to the citizens. He also issued instructions for setting a six-member committee that would submit recommendations within eight days for institutional reforms.

Shahbaz Sharif said that vision, implementation and hard work were essential for success and speedy measures would have to be adopted to change the existing obsolete system.

He said, setting up of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park and the completion of 100-megawatt solar project was a glorious example of commitment, hard work and dedication. Now time has come to change the antiquated system in the interest of national development and progress for which merit, hard work and commitment were essential for giving a practical shape to the vision. He said that bureaucracy should serve the masses with commitment and efficiency.

The WAPDA Chairman Zafar Mehmood gave a detailed briefing with regard to reforms. Provincial Ministers Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Assembly members Rana Sanaullah, Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Advisor Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development and secretaries of different departments and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
