imageSTUTTGART: Angelique Kerber put Germany one win away from the Fed Cup semi-finals on Sunday after her straight-sets victory over Australia's Samantha Stosur gave the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Kerber needed just one hour, 27 minutes to see off 2011 US Open winner Stosur to seal a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the third singles rubber at Stuttgart's Porsche Arena.

In Sunday's final singles rubber Andrea Petkovic faces Australia's Jarmila Gajdosova while the tie could be decided by the doubles rubber with Julia Goerges and Sabine Lisicki due to face Stosur and Casey Dellacqua.

Having suffered a shock three-sets defeat to Australia's Jarmila Gajdosova in Saturday's opening rubber, Kerber, ranked 10th in the world, had no such problems against Stosur.

Stosur, 30, was still feeling the effects of the longest Australian match in Fed Cup history when Petkovic took their three hour, 13 minute marathon for a 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 victory to leave the scores level after Saturday's matches.
