imageKARACHI: Pakistan government is keen to have cordial relationship with all countries in the region, however, this has to be based on mutual respect and not at the cost of national dignity, said Syed Tariq Fatemi, Minister of State and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs, here on Friday evening.

Addressing the launching ceremony of Karachi Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR) Research Paper, "Reviving Historical Trade Routes: Case Study of Silk Road - Gateway to China," followed by an interactive session on "Pak - China Relations," he said cognizant of the relevance of trade and economics in the modern era of state-hood the government has otherwise made extra efforts to focus on the issue.

Pakistan, he said also adopted the same approach for its neighbour on the eastern border, however, failed to have the reciprocity as hegemonistic ambitions on the other side appeared to be the priority.

With specific reference to Pakistan - China relation, he said both the countries and their people hold a unique and unusual understanding.

"Factually it is the Chinese who coined the term of "Iron Brothers" for the two countries and this is true and it is one relationship which is time tested," said the Minister of State and Special Assistant to the PM for Foreign Affairs.

"It is really enhanced trading and economic connections that hold most profound impact on states," said Fatemi referring to agreement the two countries have signed during past two years.

He, on the occasion, referred to the vision and dedication of chinese leadership in propelling China to new heights and helping it to be changed into one of the world's most strong economy fast on its way to achieve the goal of technological development in a multifaceted manner.

"Fortunately there were the people willing to follow the vision of their leaders," he said with the hope that the steps taken by the present government will have its lasting impact in every sphere of the Pakistani society in coming years.

The fact, he said, can not be ignored that economics is the propelling factor in all aspects of a nation's life.
