imagePARIS: UEFA president Michel Platini told AFP Tuesday that Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan has "complete legitimacy" to become FIFA's president.

Platini gave his backing hours after Prince Ali, a FIFA vice president, announced he would stand against incumbent Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency in an election in May.

"I know Prince Ali well. He has complete legitimacy to occupy the highest responsibilities," Platini said in a statement sent to AFP.

"We are now going to wait for his proposals and his programme for the future of football," the UEFA leader added.

Prince Ali is an ally of Platini who is a strong opponent of Blatter starting a fifth term as FIFA's president.
