imageKHANEWAL: Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi said on Tuesday that Imran Khan's fiery speeches were triggering political extremism.

Addressing a press conference at the residence of PUC Khanewal president Mufti Umar Farooq, he reiterated call for resumption of dialogue between government and PTI in the best interests of the nation and the country.

Ashrafi said that some elements were trying to create unrest in the country, adding that all conspiracies against democracy would be foiled.

He urged politicians to avoid confrontational politics. To a question, he said that dialogue must be held to end chances of anarchy.

He lauded the government for adopting a solid strategy and clear stance on the issue of relations with Afghanistan, adding that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif have made it clear before the world that Afghanistan was a friendly neighbour and Pakistan was committed to improve relations with Afghanistan.

Ashrafi expressed concern over gang rape incidents and urged Ulema to raise voice against it.

To another question, he said he does not see early elections, adding that PUC would fully participate in the elections whenever these would be held.

He said that over 2,000 religious scholars would participate in Paigham-e-Aslaf Conference which would be held in Lahore on December 30 wherein Ulema would discuss possible solutions of the problems being faced by the country.

He strongly condemned Faisalabad incident in which a man was killed and said that those involved in the incident should be punished.
