imageDUBAI: New Zealand lost opener Brendon McCullum after a solid start to reach lunch on 82-1 on the opening day of the second Test against Pakistan on Monday.

McCullum pulled a short delivery from seamer Ehsan Adil straight into the hands of Shan Masood at deep square-leg for 43 after New Zealand won the toss on a flat, grassless pitch at Dubai stadium.

At the break Tom Latham was on 35 and Kane Williamson was four not out after the openers had raced to 77 in a solid start to the innings.

McCullum took the attack to the bowlers, hitting four boundaries and two sixes during his 69-minute stay at the crease.

Latham, who survived a leg-before review off Adil when on 11, has so far hit four boundaries in his 90-ball knock.

New Zealand, trailing the three-match series 1-0, kept the same side which lost the first Test by 248 runs in Abu Dhabi last week.

Pakistan were forced to play with a new opening pair after Ahmed Shehzad was ruled out of the remaining two Tests with a skull fracture, and Mohammad Hafeez suffered a hamstring injury.

They were replaced by Masood and Taufeeq Umar while paceman Imran Khan was rested and made way for Adil.
