 KARACHI: The infrastructure development in Thar Coalfield would require $1.20 billion in next five years, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said.

Talking to different delegations at his office, the minister said a number of investors are showing interest in Thar Coal project as a result of government’s efforts, and added that China is also keen to invest in Thar Coal project.

“The mining and power generation at Thar Coalfield is expected to start by 2015-16 for which the infrastructure development is being expedited,” Sharjeel said.

He said that the government was serious to resolve energy crisis and the Thar Coal project, when completed, would resolve the electricity crisis of country.
