imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday appeared before the election tribunal and got recorded his statement on a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader Syed Ghaus Ali Shah against his success on PS -29 constituency.

In his statement before Justice (Retd) Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani, the CM rejected the allegation of allying with the caretaker CM Justice (Retd) Qurban Alavi.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said Alavi was not his friend, however, was appointed by him as chairman of the enquiry tribunal constituted to ascertain facts about Baldia garment factory incident.

Justice (Retd) Alavi was stated to have also been appointed as chairman of provincial zakat and ushr committee, chairman of land allotment committee, chairman of Thar drought tragedy enquiry commission and also chairman of Tori Bund breach enquiry commission.

Sindh Chief Minister rejected allegations about removal of four SSPs including Aitezaz Hassan Goraya, Syed Asghar Ali Shah, Naveed Nisar and Farooq Umer by Alavi on his directives.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah stated before the election tribunal that during Marshal Law regime in 1977, he was declared ineligible for contesting elections for eight years.

The CM said he had contested elections many times from the PS-29 electoral constituency since 1977 and Ghaus Ali Shah had won the elections against him only for once.

He also rejected allegation of intimidating the witnesses from the challenger's side and implicating them in police cases.

The Sindh Chief Minister said there were 135 polling stations in the said electoral constituency and not a single complaint of rigging was on record and the question that were asked did not pertain to him.

He said his appearance before the election tribunal was a proof of fact that PPP always respected the judiciary.

The election tribunal on completion of Qaim Ali Shah's statement adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.

The PML - N leader had appealed against Syed Qaim Ali Shah's success in PS-29 constituency (Khairpur) and also that of Nawab Wassan in NA-215 (Khairpur).

In response to the arguments forwarded by the counsel for PML-N leader Shah Muhammad Aslam Bhatta, Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Nawab Wassan recorded their separate statements before the election tribunal.
