imageKARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan, who is also the Chancellor of public sector universities in the province, has said that amendments are being made in universities bill without compromising the quality of education and merit with a view to make the same acceptable to all stakeholders.

This he said while presiding over a meeting of the Vice Chancellors at the Governor House here on Wednesday.

Senior Minister for Education, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Advisor to Governor on Higher Education, Syed Wajahat Ali, and Vice Chancellors of all the universities in the province were present on the occasion.

He said that all concerns of Vice Chancellor regarding the bill are being addressed and necessary amendments would be made through the Assembly.

The Governor asked the vice-chancellors to endeavour their utmost for increasing the standard of higher education through a viable strategy.

He asked them to generate new sources of income to overcome or at least minimise their deficit to some extent.

Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan said that the Sindh Government would endeavour its utmost to provide funds to them to ease their financial hardship.

He asked the Vice Chancellors to prepare a two years' plan aimed at attaining self sustainabillty by the end of this space of time.

It should contain the projected expenditure, income and the required grant from Federal and Provincial Governments and Higher Education Commission (HEC).

He said that all universities should prepare a comprehensive and viable strategy to ensure utmost security for their campuses.

Governor Sindh also said that public sector universities were doing a tremendous job of not only imparting higher education to youth but also conducting research in their respective fields for larger public interest and benefit.

Despite having financial problems their endeavours are very commendable, he opined.

Minister Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the Education Department would move a summary to Chief Minister regarding financial assistance to the universities.

The Vice Chancellors briefed the Governor about the problems of their respective universities.
