imageLAHORE: A special division bench of the Lahore High Court Thursday adjourning hearing of petitions against inadequate security measures in the court premises sought report from police authorities.

The special division bench headed by LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed directions on two petitions filed by Sajid Iqbal and Abbas Ali Chaudhry.

As proceedings started, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Investigation Amlesh Khan appeared before the bench besides other senior police officials.

The AIG submitted that the personnel deputed at court premises were being trained by the Elite Force. He apprised the bench that sessions judges had been requested to install security camera and walk through gates at the court premises.

At this stage, the bench observed that the police register cases under minor sections against persons accused of bringing arms in courts and they get bail easily due to it. The cases against such persons should be registered under major sections to get them punished, the bench added.

DIG Operations Rai Tahir pointed out that lawyers' chambers located inside court premises were also a matter of concern.

The bench directed the police authorities to take up the matter with sessions judge in meetings held to improve security.

The court observed that it was responsibility of the police to check arms from reaching court premises as it could cause any untoward incident.

The bench adjourning the hearing till October 22 directed police authorities to submit report on achievements made in improving coordination between police and prosecution.

The petitioners through their petitions voiced concern regarding inefficiency on the part of concerned agencies about inadequate security measures in the court premises resulting in continuous untoward incidents.
