canonKARACHI: Canon has revealed a new DSLR, the EOS 100D, aiming for the title of the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR camera.

Yet, do not let its tiny size deceive you. As Canon proved with their EOS M back in 2012, it is quite capable of packing a punch in a minute parcel. The EOS 100D is a powerful shooter, packing a whopping 18 megapixels! It has a touch screen that you can tap to focus, swipe to scroll or pinch to zoom.

The good news for those with small hands is that the camera’s dimensions are 4.6 x 3.6 x 2.7 inches. To boot, it weighs less than half a kilogram at just 407 grams.

Not far behind other DSLRs in the specs-race either, the 100D features a DIGIC 5 image processor which enables fast lens work of up to 4 frames per second. Its ISO range is 100-6400 but can be stretched to double that amount, meaning you can get clear snapshots in even moderate lighting. Equipped with a nine-point Autofocus system, the camera can even record videos in 1080 p full HD, complete with input from a mic.

Even though some of its features are similar to the EOS 650D, this new shooter is not just improved, but also has the added advantage of being 28% smaller.

Moreover, for an extra $250 it comes with an optional 18-55mm kit lens which provides a 35mm-format equivalent focal-length of 28-90mm, and has a fixed front. This translates to a great zoom!

EOS 100D, AKA EOS Rebel SL1, will release next month, and its petite form will carry a hefty $800 price tag.
