LETTER: The government is against strict lockdown; it advocates the imposition of only 'smart' lockdowns. For example, prime minister Imran Khan says he strongly opposes the proposal of re-imposing a strict lockdown in view of a surge in the Covid-19 cases, saying the country's economy cannot afford the consequences of a strict lockdown.

According to him, lockdown means halting the entire economic activity. But what he has to say in response to his cabinet colleague Asad Umar's estimates. The planning minister has forecast that the number of positive coronavirus cases in the country will soar to 1.2 million by July 31. The question is: Will we be in any position to deal with 1.2 million cases with an about to be collapsed healthcare infrastructure?
