Huawei cancels laptop launch in wake of US ban, might scrap it altogether

In the wake of US ban, Huawei has cancelled its plan to launch a new laptop since it cannot buy parts from US firms without approval, with chances that the laptop might never be launched.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has been in hot waters ever since US imposed a ban on it. Following the ban, the firm has cancelled its planned launch of a new laptop as the ban forbids it to buy parts from US companies without a special government approval.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu told CNBC that the organization planned to launch a new Matebook product, but has now put those plans on hold for an indefinite period of time.

Huawei banned from pre-installing Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp on its phones

Describing the situation as ‘unfortunate’, Yu said that the future launch date of the laptop depends on how long Huawei will be blacklisted by US. He asserted that if Huawei stays on the US entity list for a long time, the new MateBook might get withdrawn altogether.

All laptops released by Huawei so far have been based on Intel chips, but after the US ban, Intel cut off its ties with the smartphone maker, making Huawei likely unable to purchase parts for the new MateBook, wrote Mashable.
