Apex court accepts NAB's plea challenging Shehbaz Sharif's bail

The Supreme Court (SC) accepted on Thursday the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) plea challenging a Lahore High Court's (LHC) verdict to grant bail to Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif in the Ashiana Housing and Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

A three-member bench, headed by Judge Azmat Saeed, heard the appeal. During the hearing, the counsel for NAB Naeem Bukhari argued that the LHC's decision was against the principles governing the grant of bail as set by the SC.

Issuing notices to both Sharif and the former principal secretary to the prime minister Fawad Hassan Fawad, the apex court has adjourned the hearing of the case till May 2, local media reported.

Sharif was taken into custody in the Ashiana Housing scam case by NAB last year in October. On February 14, the LHC accepted Sharif's request for bail in the two cases against him.
