Jamatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and his seven aides have moved a petition before the Lahore High Court against cases registered against them on charges of terror financing and describing them as members of proscribed Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT).
The other petitioners included Muhammad Ayub Sheikh, Zafar Iqbal, Syed Luqman Ali Shah, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, Abdul Salam, Abdul Ghaffar and Abdul Qudoos Shahid.
The petitioners through their counsel A.K Dogar submit that the facts narrated in the impugned FIRs describe them as members of LeT with allegations of terror financing.
The counsel referred to a LHC judgment against the then detention of Hafiz Saeed which stated that the petitioners are not the members of LeT. In another judgment, the court had held that Hafiz Saeed had left the leadership of LeT on December 24, 2001, while the organisation was banned on January 14, 2002. He therefore prayed the court to quash the impugned FIRs lodged against them for being unlawful and of no legal effect.
