Following the Manchester massacre, the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions trophy is at risk of getting postponed.
According to the latest development, the UK parliament said on Wednesday it would close all public events with immediate effect due to an increased security threat after Monday's suicide bomb attack that claimed 23 lives on Monday.
"As a consequence all tours, events and banqueting will be canceled with immediate effect. This arrangement will remain in place until the advice changes," the parliament said on its website.
On the other hand, the ICC on Tuesday said it will work with the relevant authorities to review security measures for the upcoming tournament and Women’s World Cup, after a deadly terrorist attack.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the horrific attack in Manchester. The ICC and ECB place safety and security at the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup this summer as the highest priority.
“We operate on advice from our Tournament Security Directorate – in conjunction with the ECB and relevant authorities – to ensure that we have a robust safety and security plan for both tournaments. We will continue to work with authorities over the coming hours and days and review our security in line with the threat levels,” reads the ICC statement.
