Waseem Khan, the boxer who made Pakistan proud after becoming World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver flyweight champion back in 2014, is finally getting his due share of recognition as the government of Pakistan approved on Wednesday the Rs30 million grant announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Waseem aka Falcon Khan has been on cloud nine since successfully defending his title against Philippines Giemel Magramo, back in November last year.
It was learnt, that the Rs3 crore grant will be utilized in trainings and tours of the boxer, whereas, the government has further assured to support Waseem Khan with every possible facility.
Unlike other sportsmen in the country, Waseem has been quite lucky for being recognized as a national hero by the government and masses. Previously, the boxer was awarded Rs2.5 million by Javed Afridi, the owner of Pakistan Super Leagues franchise Peshawar Zalmi. Afridi also announced that Waseem would be Zalmis new brand ambassador.
Recently, the WBC Champion was praised by Pakistans Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa for his outstanding achievements. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) stated that the young generation should follow Waseems footsteps to bring name and recognition to the country.
