imageISLAMABAD: Cricketer Yasir Hameed believes that the performance of senior players will play a key role in Pakistan's success in the One-Day International series against England, starting on Wednesday.

Pakistan, who achieved top ICC Test rankings on Monday are presently languishing on 87 points - seven points behind eighth- ranked West Indies in the limited-overs rankings.

After the Test series against England, they defeated Ireland in the ODI series and now they have a chance to close the gap with the West Indies provided they defeat England in the ODIs.

Talking to APP Yasir Hameed said that Pakistan team would have to adopt the same approach with which they played the four-match Test series against England and squared the series in style.

"I believe our players will have to show the same unity and fighting spirit to defeat British team in one day series at their home soil" he said.

The 38-year-old said that after the superb performance in Tests, everyone was talking about Pakistan team's ability to perform even in tough conditions.

"Equalizing the series was not easy. But Pakistan team played like a unit and surprised all. Now they will have to show the same commitment and spirit," he said.

"Pakistan players - both batsmen and bowlers will have to deliver if they want to improve their ODI rankings," said Yasir, who have scored 2058 runs in 56 matches with an average of 36.87.

However, he was of the view that Pakistan's senior players, in particular would have to live up to expectations. He said skipper Azhar Ali, Mohammed Hafeez, Shoaib Malik and Umar Gul would not only have to perform themselves but would also have to take along junior players.

"No doubt, England are a strong ODI side, especially at their home soil but they are beatable. Pakistan have shown that in the Test series and now they would have to show that in the ODI series," he remarked.
