Women councillors must be given opportunities to explore and utilise their inner potential, and they should be given right of freedom of speech so that they could highlight problems they face.
Women Councillor, Azra Israr from Gulberg said this in a press conference here on Thursday.
While highlighting the problems of women councillors she said that they were denied developmental funds, apart from providing necessary opportunities in their career building.
A training programme funded by UNDP was initiated but many women councillors were not allowed to participate.
Human Rights Council Chairman, Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar presented a report for the year 2003.
According to the report 152 women were burnt alive and over 200 committed suicide, while 500 women were killed in the name of honour in 2003.
