Customs anti smuggling squads have seized smuggled scrap, cloth and other contraband materials valuing Rs three million from various places in the provincial capital.
A spokesman for customs anti smuggling organisation (ASO) said on Wednesday that an informer tipped off the Superintendent Chaudhry Shafaat about these smuggling attempts who deputed ASO officials to check the indicated places.
He said that during checking near Kala Shah Kaku on Motorway, ASO Inspector A. D. Sarfraz seized two trucks of scrap, 22 packs of olive oil sticks weighing 880 kg, 2,300-meter fancy cloth valuing over Rs two million.
He also seized from the same spot 138 pieces of used auto parts from a truck (AP-0012) coming from Dera Ismail Khan, NWFP. Moreover, Inspector Khalid Butt during a raid at Motorway, seized precious timber from a truck (LHA-3311) valuing Rs 500,000.
Meanwhile Inspector Shahnawaz Bajwa seized 2,500-meter cloth worth Rs 250,000 near railway station that was being shifted to market for sale, the spokesman added.
