imageISLAMABAD: The Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Sunday welcomed the coming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan, saying it would further enhance economic and trade cooperation between the two friendly countries, besides boosting the confidence of business community.

"The Chinese President is arriving here tomorrow on the two-day visit with a large delegation comprising top businessmen, hence providing an opportunity to Pakistani businessmen to explore avenues for developing trade relations with their Chinese counterparts," FPCCI chief Muhammad Adrees told APP.

He was optimistic that the visit would pave way for enhanced trade to meet the target of enhancing trade volume .

"Pakistan has multi-dimensional and deep-rooted relationship with China and long-standing ties of friendship between the two countries are underpinned by mutual trust and confidence,".

He said a number of agreements, worth billions of dollars, in different sectors including energy, infrastructure, engineering, software technologies and defence were expected to be signed during the Chines President's visit.

He said that Pakistan was an agro-based country, however, agriculture productivity was not up to the mark due to use of traditional measures. Pakistan was looking forward to China to give technology assistance to modernize agriculture.

Muhammad Adrees opined that establishment of industrial facilities and upgradation of communication infrastructure, besides boosting trade between the two countries, would also enhance regional connectivity.

He appreciated the presidents level meeting between the two countries to resolve Pakistan's energy crisis through development of hydel, thermal and solar energy projects. The Chasma project, he said, was subsequently resumed as a cooperative project between Pakistan and the China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation.

Vice President SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pak chapter and veteran trade leader Iftikhar Ali Malik said that China and Pakistan had witnessed steady growth in mutual investments in recent years. Investment of billions of dollars was made by China in Pakistan in the last few years.

He said the combined effect certainly would be Pakistan's economic revival, besides improved relations with China would contribute towards its security in the changing regional geo-political environment.

He said an era of progress, prosperity, development and strengthening of national economy would usher with the visit of Chinese President.

Iftikhar Malik, who is chairman of United Business Group, said all chambers, including FPCCI, would extend their full co-operation and assistance to the Chinese investors.
