imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of a petition against acceptance of Prof Sajid Mir's nomination papers for senate elections till March 4.

Justice Ayesha A Malik adjourned the matter after Prof Sajid Mir's counsel sought time to file reply.

The petition was filed by Qazi Hussain Siraj, a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan, submitting that Prof Sajid Mir filed his nomination papers for senate elections as PML-N candidate, whereas he was president of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith. No individual could be a member of more than one party under Political Parties Ordinance 2002, he contended.

He further said the respondent candidate used the prefix `professor' but as per the notification of the Election Commission, a PhD degree is a must for that prefix.

He contended that the respondent did not qualify criteria set in Constitutional provisions. He pleaded the court to set aside his nomination papers.
