imageISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Afzal informed the National Assembly on Tuesday that the suggestion for soft loans to government employees for construction of houses would be included in next budget.

He was responding to a motion moved by Perveen Masood Bhatti, Shahnaz Saleem and Shakila Luqman that "the House may discuss steps to increase the amount of housing building advance for the government employees."

He said, "The suggestion will be forwarded to the Finance Minister for consideration."

He said housing building loans were being offered in four categories, including construction, purchase, repair and renovation of houses.

He said presently the government employees were availing loan facility equal to their 36-month basic salary, repayable in ten years.

He said employees from grade one to 16 got loan without any interest.

The Parliamentary Secretary said the government had announced to construct around 50,0000 houses for low income groups.

Parveen Masood Bhatti said the basic salary of a grade I employee was around Rs 5,000, who could avail only Rs 180,000 as loan, which was sufficuent to build a house.

She suggested that maximum loan amount equal to 100 basic salaries should be given.

Shahnaz Saleem and Naeema Kishwar suggested that employees should be given interest free loan for the construction of homes.
