KARACHI: Sanjay Dutt, who was recently granted another month to surrender has reportedly filed a petition against the Supreme Court of India.
According to Indian media sources, the review against the March 21st judgment of the Supreme Court was filed by the 53-year-old on Friday and is to come up for his hearing next week.
His counsel has reportedly urged the court to release him on a probationary basis, considering his past conduct and involvement with charitable and social organisations. The actor has reportedly supported NGO’s like Society Undertaking Poor People’s Onus for Rehabilitation, Cancer Parent Aids Association, Rare Blood Groups and most importantly, after the death of his father Sunil Dutt, he took responsibility for the Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, founded by his father in memory of Nargis.
The “Munna Bhai” actor had been forced to surrender on April 18th , but he asked for more time in order to fulfill his professional commitments. Thus, he was granted four more weeks by the court on “humanitarian grounds”.
Dutt’s jail sentence was, however, reduced from six to five years. He has already served 18 months in prison and will now have to spend another three-and-a-half-years behind bars.
