ISLAMABAD: The coronavirus cases in Pakistan have surged to 116,189, while the Covid-19 deaths to 2,297, and the country has ranked 15th among the most-affected nations worldwide.

According to latest figures issued by the authorities, Sindh has the highest number of cases that is 43,790, followed by Punjab with 43,460 cases, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 14,527, Balochistan 7,031, Islamabad Capital Territory 5,963, Gilgit-Baltistan 974, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 444 cases.

Of the 2,297 deaths, Punjab has highest reported deaths that are 807, followed by Sindh 738 deaths, 610 in KP, 62 in Balochistan, 57 in Islamabad, 14 in Gilgit-Baltistan and nine in the AJK.

According to authorities 36,308 patients have so far recovered from the disease.

Sindh has reported more than 2,000 cases for the first time after a record 2,487 new coronavirus cases were confirmed.

According to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, 9,100 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours, of which 2,487 came back positive, taking the provincial total to 43,790.

The province has also reported its highest single-day death toll at 42, taking the total fatalities to 738.

The chief minister added that 493 patients were in critical condition, while 77 were on ventilators.

Punjab has reported 2,641 new coronavirus cases the highest single-day increase recorded by any province, so far - taking the provincial total to 43,460.

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the province has also confirmed 34 additional deaths from the virus, taking the total fatalities to 807.

Islamabad has reported 178 new coronavirus cases, taking its total to 5,963, according to the government's Covid-19 portal.

Gilgit-Baltistan has reported 22 cases, while Azad Jammu and Kashmir has confirmed 32, taking their tallies to 974 and 444, respectively.

Islamabad has also recorded five more deaths from Covid-19, taking the total fatalities to 57.
