imageIn today’s hectic lifestyle, there are more important stuff to do than keep charging your smartphone. However, most people cannot live without it as well, so they find bedtime the most appropriate time for charging overnight.

But, this activity could turn fatal for your cellphones especially to the battery, unless if you keep changing your devices after every two years.

As per The New York Times, frequent charging takes a toll on the lithium-ion batteries in our phones. And the reason might surprise you, is not because they can be overcharged, which is in contrary to popular notion.

“Smartphones are, in fact, smart,” said Edo Campos, a spokesman for Anker, producer of phone chargers said. “They know when to stop charging,” he added. Meaning than you cannot overcharge the battery.

Therefore, according to Treehugger, the issue with charging overnight is the frequent charging and discharging cycle eventually rakes a toll at the battery and leads to a reduction in the amount of charge it can hold, meaning that you will need to charge more often, and ironically further corroding the battery.

Now, is there a solution, if one want their batteries to last longer, one should make sure their phones don’t get overheated, informed Campos, as high temperatures further excite the lithium-ion in batteries, leading to even quicker deterioration.

Apple’s website says temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius can “permanently damage battery capacity.
