Nawaz Sharif restricted FO from speaking against India, claims former spokesperson

• Even in his speech at the United Nations, the former PM did not talk about India and Jadhav but on the Kashmir issue, Tasneem Aslam said.

A former spokesperson for the Foreign Office (FO) has claimed that the ministry was barred from speaking against India by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

In an interview to a YouTube channel being run by an Islamabad-based journalist, Isa Naqvi, former FO spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said that Sharif had also restricted them from speaking about Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

Aslam said even in his speech at the United Nations, the former PM did not talk about India and Jadhav but on the Kashmir issue. She said while it did not benefit the country, she does not know whether it benefited Nawaz’s own interests or not.

She continued that while every prime minister of Pakistan meets Hurriyat leaders, Sharif did not meet them when he visited India. Sharif visited India in 2014.

Aslam worked as FO spokesperson first from 2005 to 2007 during the regime of General (retd) Pervez Musharraf. And later during  2013-2017, the last Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government's tenure.
