(Karachi) Pakistan supports talks on peace process between Afghanistan and United States as it is vital to maintain peace in the region.

These views were expressed by Permanent Representative of Pakistan to United Nations, Munir Akram, while speaking during the UN’s General Assembly debate on the situation of Afghanistan on Thursday.

Akram said Pakistan supports Afghanistan’s vital pursuit of peace and stability. Akram maintained that India was in blatant violation of 15-member body’s resolutions that aimed at settling the Kashmir conflict.

He added that the Indian forces have completely blocked the communication in the held valley and resorted to human rights abuse. He mentioned that the lockdown in the Indian Occupied Kashmir has been continuing for more than 100 days and the international community should raise voice over the inhumane treatment being meted out to innocent Kashmiris.

The situation in Jammu and Kashmir worsened when the Modi-led BJP government stripped the region of its special status on August 5.

Since India’s move, the situation in the held valley turned violent as Kashmiris took to the streets in protest. The Indian government cut all types of communication and also tortured and killed several people.

Pakistan has been raising the issue at international forum demanding other countries to ask India to end the brutality in Occupied Kashmir.
