ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have shared values and are tied in Islamic brotherhood which needs to be further cemented by boosting the existing economic cooperation between the two countries.

This was said by Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan in a meeting with Ambassador of Uzbekistan Mr Furqat Sidiqov who called on him here Friday, a press release said.

The federal minister said Pakistan wants to take benefit from the energy sources of Uzbekistan especially the huge gas reservoirs.

He said he is schedule to attend CAREC meeting at Tashkent from September 20 where he will be meeting his Uzbek counterpart and discuss the prospects of cooperation between the two counties in the energy sector.

The minister expressed satisfaction over multiplication of trade volume between the two counties.

He said Pakistan would also take benefit from the renewable energy related expertise of Uzbekistan.

On suggestion of Uzbek ambassador the minister agreed to form Joint Working Group on Energy and said additional secretary Power Division shall work as focal person to undertake the formalities in this regard.

The ambassador of Uzbekistan informed the minister that Uzbekistan look forward to further boost the existing relations between the two counties.

He informed the minister that Uzbekistan has huge gas reservoirs and the electricity generation has also competitive rates.

He also apprised the minister that Uzbekistan has good experience in renewable energy and Tashkent has a solar university where good research has been made on the subject.
