Facebook is making video watching fun by launching a feature through which users can watch videos simultaneously together even when they are apart.

Yesterday Facebook announced a new feature named ‘Watch Party’ that will let users simultaneously watch Facebook videos together in real time. With synced streams, the host will be able to add videos and users can comment and react to the videos while watching together.

Multiple people can co-host Watch Party, enabling them to select videos to add and ‘keep the party going’. The attendees will be able to suggest videos but not play them. The feature that was being tested since January will now only be initiated within Facebook Groups and can be either live or prerecorded. However, Facebook informed that Watch Parties outside of groups and for Facebook Pages are also being tested for future.

Facebook suspends firm over concern of new data breach scandal

“We’ve been focused on building new ways to bring people together around video, create connections, and ignite conversations; Watch Party is the next step in bringing this vision to life,” wrote Facebook.

As per the social media site, the feature is being used for Q&As around various groups, life hacks, makeup tutorials in real time, learning new skills and such. Also, Watch Party could be used for smaller communities too such as bridging the gap between close friends and family that live far away but can now enjoy any occasion together with the feature.

For celebrating the launch of its feature and connect communities, numerous groups on Facebook are holding a Weekend Watch Party between July 27 and 29. There is a whole list of groups with some famous ones too including Buzzfeed’s Tasty Group, Female Travel Bloggers, Fitness Sisters, and more.

“We believe that if people can start a Watch Party directly from their profile or from a video they’re watching, the experience of watching video on Facebook can become even more fun and social,” wrote the firm.
