Humanoid robots that are manufactured with a humanlike body are on the rise. Recently, a ‘teenage boy’ robot has been created that can perform exercises and also, it sweats!

The life-size robot named Kengoro has a similar teenage boy anatomy in body proportion, skeletal muscular structure, and joint flexibility. Due to this astounding design, the robot can perform numerous humanlike motion including full-body exercises.

Kengoro was made by Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo. The bot has a multi-jointed spine that lets it curl into a sit-up or do back extensions. Its arms are agile enough to perform numerous stretches or even swing a badminton racket. Because of its strong artificial muscles, the bot can even stand on tip-toe or perform push-ups. The robot can also move its head from side to side, imitating how humans crack their neck.

According to Science News, the robot has batteries fixed in each of its leg that powers it to go through around 20 minutes of workout at a time. With water seeping from inside of the bot’s metal skeleton, it portrays as if the robot is sweating that also keeps the motors of the artificial muscles cool while Kengoro works out.

Publishing their invention in Science Robotics, the researchers explained, “A limitation of conventional humanoids is that they have been designed on the basis of the theories of conventional engineering, mechanics, electronics, and informatics.

“By contrast, our intent is to design a humanoid based on human systems — including the musculoskeletal structure, sensory nervous system, and methods of information processing in the brain — to support science-oriented goals, such as gaining a deeper understanding of the internal mechanisms of humans.”
