Portugal's first-quarter tourist arrivals slump 92pc amid COVID curbs

Earlier on Friday, the statistics office showed Portugal's tourism-dependent economy contracted 3.3% in the first quarter from the preceding three months.
Overnight stays by Britons, one of the country's biggest foreign markets, fell 94% from a year ago, the INE said.

Portuguese hotels lost 73pc of revenue in 2020, see long recovery ahead

The majority of hotels do not expect to reopen until May. One in three hotels said they will either not reopen or are not sure when or whether they would.
"The impact of these closures ... is brutal on total revenues for the hotel industry," Cristina Siza Vieira, CEO of the association, said in a video presentation.
