KARACHI: Pakistan cricket team gave the nation a New Year's gift when it won the 1st ODI in Chennai beating India by 6 wickets, their second win after they won the first T20 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on December 25.  


Pakistan chased the target set by India and closed play with 228-4 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai. 

 

Pakistan were 172-4 after they lost the wicket of Misbah-ul Haq on 16. But the Indian bowlers were unable to stop Pakistan's winning streak.

 

Nasir Jamshed was the star batsman with his fantastic 101 not out in 132 balls. Younus batted for 58. Shoaib Malik put 34 on the scoreboard in 35 balls. Ishant Sharma took 1 wicket giving away 31 runs. Virat Kohli went back to the pavilion after he sprained his right ankle while bowling. He was replaced by Dinda with figures of 1-41. Ashwin took no wickets for 27 runs. Kumar was the only bowler who took 2 wickets for 27 runs.

 

Dhoni shone for India with his 113 not out, Raina just behind with 43 and Ashwin 31 not out. Gautam Gambhir could only manage 8.

 

Pakistani bowlers cam through this time, with Junaid taking 4-43. Mohammad Hafeez took 1 wicket for 26 runs while Mohammad Irfan walked away with 1-58.

 

India needed 48 to win in 40.5 overs with 55 balls remaining.

 

India lost five wickets just for 29 runs. G Gambhir’s wicket was taken by Mohammad Irfan, Gambhir made eight ruins. Junaid Khan took the wicket of V Sehwag. Having facing 11 balls, Sehwag made four runs.

 

Kohli and Yuvraj Singh were both dismissed by Junaid Khan.

 

RG Sharma’S was dimissed in third slip and is caught out by Mohammad Hafeez. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat.

 

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and decided to field at first one day international (ODI) at Chennai, media reported on Sunday.

 

According to the details, captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and offered India to bat first.

 

Toss was delayed by an hour due to rain and damp pitch. The pitch was covered with grass and the overcast conditions made the decision at the toss straightforward.

 

Despite the delay, there was no reduction in the number of overs.

 

The 2nd ODI will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 3.
