UBAURO: Several tractor drivers and growers sustained injuries when police baton charged a large number of growers who blocked the national highway against the Daharki Sugar Mills, located at Kumoon Shaheed near Ubauro on Sunday afternoon to protest buying the sugarcane from Punjab instead of growers of Sindh.
Growers Ranjha Khan Chaang, Maula Bux Kaosh, Muhammad Luqman Mazari, Haq Nawaz, Qasim Chaang and others told newsmen that the mill officials were allegedly charging Rs.2000 to Rs.3000 for issuing indent and on refusal they were buying sugarcane from Punjab.
The growers told that hundreds of tractor trolleys loaded with sugarcane are parked at national highway as the factory officials have refused to issue indents to them.
This has created traffic mess that causes problems to public transport and other vehicles operating to and from Punjab. The highway in Ghotki district is already in dilapidated condition as it was destroyed in floods and rains.
The police and security guards of factory resorted to baton charging on growers to clear the highway.
In the meantime, the passengers of public transport and other vehicles also protested for having stuck up for several hours.
