fbr-RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reduced customs duty on the import of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) kits from 25 to 10 percent for promoting use of LPG in automobiles to gradually phase out compressed natural gas from the sector.

In this connection, the FBR here on Tuesday issued SRO1187 (I)/2012 to amend SRO575 (I)/2006 dated June 5, 2006.

According to the notification, the concessionary rate of 10 percent duty would be applicable on the import of LPG pumps, control panels, LPG dispensers and LPG vehicle conversion kits imported by licensed companies.

The exemption would only be available to approved models or brands by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and notified by the FBR. The importer shall also submit quality certificate of the original manufacturer duly witnessed by the designated third party inspectors as notified by the authorised government agency regarding safety standards as laid down in LPG (Production and Distribution) Rules, 2001, the FBR notification added.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet had reduced duty on LPG equipment. It was decided that LPG cylinders that currently attract no import duty would remain unchanged while other items already attracting 10 per cent duties.
