- December 23, 2011: Suicide bombers blow up two vehicles at security service premises in Damascus. Forty-four people die and 166 are injured, with civilians and security personnel among the casualties.

- January 6, 2012: A suicide bomber blows himself up in the crowded Midan neighbourhood of the capital, killing 26 people and wounding 46.

- March 17: Two huge bomb blasts kill at least 27 people, most of them civilians, and hurt 140 in central Damascus. The targets are police headquarters and air force intelligence offices.

- May 10: Fifty-five people die and 372 are injured when two powerful blasts hit a freeway in Damascus during the morning rush hour. The explosions take place near security service premises in the Qazzaz neighbourhood.

- June 27: An attack on an official TV station near Damascus kills seven people, three of them journalists.

- July 18: A suicide attack on heavily guarded security headquarters in Damascus kills four top regime officials, including defence minister General Daoud Rajha and President Bashar al-Assad's brother-in-law, Assef Shawkat.

- August 6: A bomb blast wounds several people at state television headquarters in the capital.

- August 15: A bomb set in the car park of military chief of staff premises in Damascus injures several people. The attack is claimed by the rebels.

- August 28: A bomb hits a funeral procession in Jaramana, a pro-regime neighbourhood of Damascus, killing at least 27 people.

- September 1: A car bomb kills at least 15 civilians in the Sbeneh neighbourhood, known for its hostility to the regime.

- September 2: Twin bombs explode near a tightly guarded government compound at Abu Remmaneh in the heart of the capital, injuring four people according to state television.

- September 3: The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least five people are killed when a car bomb explodes in Jaramana, a mainly Druze and Christian neighbourhood of Damascus.
