Activities of Karachi Port and Port Qasim

The Karachi Port handled 131,933 tonnes of cargo comprising 90,059 tonnes of import cargo and 41,874 tonnes of export cargo including 5,281 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The Karachi Port handled 131,933 tonnes of cargo comprising 90,059 tonnes of import cargo and 41,874 tonnes of export cargo including 5,281 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 90,059 tonnes comprised of 47,750 tonnes of containerised cargo; 19,313 tonnes of bulk cargo and 22,996 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 41,874 tonnes comprised of 18,014 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,550 tonnes of general cargo and 14,310 tonnes of bulk cargo.

As many as 5,281 containers comprising of 3,563 containers of import and 1,718 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 991 of 20's and 1,201 of 40's loaded while 170 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 437 of 20's and 264 of 40's loaded containers while 493 of 20's and 130 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely CSAV Tyndall, Crimson Queen, Bow Triumph and Ocean Peace-8 carrying containers, chemical and steel scrap respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were three vessels carrying containers respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 125,545 tonnes comprising of 102,173 tonnes of import cargo and 23,372 tonnes of export cargo including 3,223 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 102,173 tonnes includes 8,980 tonnes of coal; 2,300 tonnes of chemical; 34,721 tonnes of diesel oil; 6,304 tonnes of soyabean; 1,855 tonnes of LPG and 48,013 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 23,372 tonnes includes 10,148 tonnes of cement and 13,224 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,223 containers comprising of 2,527 containers import and 696 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were three ships namely MSC Atlantic, Epic Manhattan and Naersk Tee Sport carrying containers, LPG and diesel oil respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday afternoon. A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, soyabean, chemical, LPG and diesel oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eleven vessels viz. Nasco Jade, BBC Forever, Daphne, Panorea, Gulf Mews, Eagle, Gas Amazon, Glory Harvest, Hoegn Gallanat, UACC Consensus and Helene Maersk carrying steel coil, coal, soyabean, chemical, floating craft, LPG, LNG and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were two ships viz. MOL Gateway and Gulf Mews carrying containers and chemical respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There was one ship namely MOL Gateway carrying containers due to arrive on Wednesday while two more ships namely Thorsky and Hansa America carrying containers are due to arrive on Thursday.
