  • India, the world's second most populous country is set to go under lockdown tonight
  • Modi announces total lockdown for 21 days amid 482 confirmed cases and 9 deaths
  • The lockdown is similar to that of Kashmir's which started 232 days ago after revocation of Article 370

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has just announced that the country will go into full lockdown from midnight local time - that's in just under four hours - for 21 days starting today.

India, the world's second most populous country, has introduced a lockdown in similar fashion to many countries all over the world amid rising Coronavirus concerns.

"There will be a total ban on venturing out of your homes," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a televised address.

There have been 482 confirmed cases of coronavirus and nine deaths in India so far.

Many experts suggest that these numbers are under-reported and a lack of testing does not depict the full story of the extent of the spread of COVID-19 in India.

The total lockdown will be in similar fashion to the one Kashmir has been under for 232 days since August 5 , 2019 when special status of Jammu and Kashmir was revoked via scrapping of the Article 370 of the Constitution of India.
