This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "Nawaz Sharif's repatriation" carried by the newspaper yesterday. I fully endorse newspaper's conclusion; according to which, "One would have thought there were bigger and more important issues for our government to focus on, not the least of which is the threatened fallout of the global coronavirus epidemic on our already faltering economy. Instead the concentration on pursuing Nawaz Sharif does arouse suspicions of political victimisation."

The foregoing clearly suggests that the PTI government is into vindictive politics against the leaders of the opposition, including the Sharif brothers. Its desperation to urge the UK government to deport Nawaz Sharif appears to be aimed at diverting people's attention from worsening economic conditions in the country. It is therefore required to take urgent steps to dispel impression that its approach to opposition is not driven by vindictiveness.
