  • Jami has been aggressively supporting #MeToo and protests related to the movement.
  • The director came forward with his own #MeToo story in a series of tweets.

Speaking in support of the ongoing #MeToo movement and to stop the attack on the movement and the victims, filmmaker Jami has revealed that he was raped around 13 year ago by a close friend, who is a giant in the media industry.

“I know it’s a suicide what I’m writing right now but this is important before they harm the movement,” Jami wrote in a series of tweets. Jami is among the very few Pakistani celebrities who have even opened up about facing harassment.

He further added, “I’m pissed that they are attacking the movement and victims so I’m coming here today after 13 or so years to say 99.99% survivors are telling the truth always. No doubt ever”.

In a series of posts on Twitter, the director broke his silence on the traumas of his past, recalling how harassers get away with rape and sexual violence.

Without revealing the name, Jami said he was raped by an influential media personality and the ordeal of having to go through such a disturbing experience, which took place almost 13 years back, continues to haunt him even today.

Speaking about the traumatic incident, he said, “Why I’m so strongly supporting #metoo? Because I know exactly how it happens now, inside a room then outside courts inside courts and how a survivor hides confides because I was brutally raped by a very powerful person in our media world. A Giant actually, and yes I’m taller than him but I froze not sure why, yes it really happens and happened to me”.
