The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested on Friday former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in connection with the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.

On October 4, the bureau had issued Nawaz's arrest warrants in the CSM case. A NAB team took the former PM into custody from Kot Lakhpat jail  and brought him to an accountability court where the bureau asked the court for Nawaz's physical remand.

The accountability watchdog sought a 15-day physical remand of Nawaz, local media reported. However, the court sent Nawaz on a 14-day remand.

Nawaz's daughter Maryam Nawaz and his nephew Yousuf Abbas have already been arrested in the CSM case and are on judicial remand.

Nawaz is serving a seven-year imprisonment in Al-Azizia Mills corruption case.
