FIR filed against 49 Bollywood celebrities for ‘tarnishing image of India’

• Legal action to be taken against celebs who wrote open letter to Modi over growing incidents of mob lynching.
• The accuser has claimed that the letter has tarnished the image of India.

An FIR has been launched against 49 Bollywood celebrities including, Mani Ratnam, Aparna Sen, Anurag Kashyap and Konkona Sen Sharma who had written an open letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over growing incidents of mob lynching in India.

In the letter the celebrities had stated that the lynching of Muslims, Dalits and other minorities must be stopped immediately, while stressing that there was ‘no democracy without dissent’.

A Muzaffarpur-based lawyer and serial petitioner Sudhir Kumar Ojha has now took a legal action against the Bollywood celebs. Earlier, he had attempted to drag multiple celebrities to court over issues as diverse as Bollywood intimate scenes and promoting junk food in advertisements.

According to Indian media reports, this time he has claimed in his FIR that nearly 50 signatories of the letter has ‘tarnished the image of India and undermined the performance of the Indian Prime Minister’.

The police said the FIR was lodged under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those relating to sedition, public nuisance, hurting religious feelings and insulting with an intent to provoke breach of peace.
