Pakistan batting superstar Babar Azam led the way for his side Somerset, as they tore down through Mohammad Amir’s Essex in a one-sided encounter at Vitality Blast 2019.

Babar, who top scored for his side with 56 runs off just 39 deliveries featuring seven boundaries and one maximum, helped Somerset post a mammoth 225 runs on board in their 20-overs against Essex at Chelmsford on Wednesday.

The batsman was accompanied with contributions from Tom Banton, skipper Tom Abell and in-form hitter Eddie Byrom, who scored 39, 54 and 44 respectively, allowing Somerset to post their joint-sixth highest T20 total. Meanwhile, Amir was only able to take one wicket for Essex in his spell of four overs.

In reply, Essex were all wrapped up on 111 runs in 13 overs, thanks to a five wicket haul from Somerset’s Roelof van der Merwe, giving his side a massive win by 114 runs.

Babar has been Pakistan’s prime batsman for the past year or so and his sublime form has continued in the T20 tournament, as he once again emerged as the tournament’s leading run scorer with 323 runs in seven games hitting three fifties in the process as well.
