Jonty Rhodes applies for India’s fielding coach position

Former South African superstar Jonty Rhodes, hailed among the greatest fielders of the game, has applied for the fielding coach of the Indian men's team.

Rhodes, who became an overnight sensation after his memorable stumps breaking run out of Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq during the 1992 World Cup, has not coached any team at international level but has extensive experience on the coaching staff of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“I have seen from my time in India that parents don’t let their children take much risk, and my vision would be for the Indian team not to just be the team with lowest drop catch percentage, but also the team with highest half chance opportunity taken," said Rhodes while confirming about his decision, quoted CricketNext.

A BCCI official also confirmed that Rhodes has applied for the job and said, "Yes, Rhodes has applied and while it is true that he hasn't coached any international team, he has been involved with Mumbai Indians for nine seasons and, as per the eligibility criteria, you need to have worked with an IPL team for three seasons if not an international team".
