SEOUL: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, the luxury car brand under the BMW Group, said Wednesday that it has expanded its showroom in Seoul on increased sales in South Korea.
The Goodwood-based carmaker has two showrooms in Asia's fourth-biggest economy -- one in Seoul and the other in Busan, 453 kilometers south of Seoul.
On Tuesday, the carmaker opened the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Seoul Cheongdam Boutique, an upgraded and sophisticated showroom, to offer a "tailor-made experience" to customers in Korea, one of the world's fastest-growing markets.
"Korea is a very important cornerstone in our Asia strategy ... it's right after Japan and the second-biggest market in Asia (after China) for Rolls-Royce. We might see at a certain moment Korea is overtaking Japanese business in terms of sales," Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Executive Torsten Muller-Otvos said.
In 2018, Rolls-Royce sold 123 models in Korea, up 43 percent from 86 a year earlier. The CEO expects to achieve another record sales figure in Korea this year.
Last year, the Korean market grew at one of the fastest rates worldwide for Rolls-Royce, and this landmark occasion reflects not only the carmaker's position as the leading luxury house in the business of cars, but also Seoul's position as a leader in the global luxury arena, he said.
Rolls-Royce began to sell its vehicles in Korea 15 years ago. Its current lineup includes the Phantom, Ghost, Wraith, Dawn and Cullinan.
Asked if the carmaker has a plan to add hybrid and electric models to its lineup, the CEO said it plans to "go all-electric in the next decade," without elaborating.
