The Lahore High Court (LHC) accepted on Thursday the bail plea of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif in the Ashiana Housing and the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

During the hearing today, the bench headed by Judge Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan accepted Sharif's bail petitions and ordered his release. The bench had earlier reserved its verdict regarding the petitions. The high court also accepted the bail appeal of senior bureaucrat Fawad Hasan Fawad’s in the Ashiyana Housing case. However, the LHC rejected his bail request in a case pertaining to owing assets beyond known sources of income.

Sharif had been in National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) custody since October 5 last year. He was arrested by NAB for corruption in the Ashiana housing scheme case. In November last year, NAB again arrested the opposition leader in the National Assembly in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case alleging that Sharif had used public funds for the construction of a bridge linking to their mills in Chiniot, Punjab.
