Pakistan opening batsman Imam ul Haq has dismissed reports of change of captaincy in Pakistani cricket, ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

There have been reports circulating that the PCB is looking towards a change in captaincy, after skipper Sarfraz Ahmed was handed a four match suspension by the ICC, as the cricketer was found in violation of the Anti-Racism code after he was caught heard making a racist remark to South Africa’s Phehlukwayo during the second ODI in Durban.

“Sarfraz is our captain for the past two years, there are no changes, as he is only out for four or five games due to the ICCs suspension. Meanwhile, Shoaib Malik is serving as the stand-by captain due to Sarfraz’s suspension,” said Imam, while talking to local media.

Imam returned to Pakistan, after a personally successful tour of South Africa, the youngster was the highest run-getter from both sides in the one-day series and his 271 runs was the best a Pakistan batsman has managed in South Africa.

Imam also claimed the record for being the second fastest to 1,000 ODI runs.

Talking about his much reported animated celebration after scoring his fifth century, Imam said that the incident happened out of frustration.“Coming to the gesture, it happens sometimes out of frustration, otherwise I respect everyone,” he added.

The top order batsman further that the upcoming World Cup is the prime target of the Pakistan cricket team, and the side is working hard to produce a good show in cricket’s premier tournament.
