Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday once again urged the people to declare their undisclosed assets before June 30, 2019 to help the government steer the country out of difficult economic situation.
In his televised message to the nation, the Prime Minister said that the country's total debt was increased from Rs 6 trillion to Rs 30 trillion during the last ten years and now the government has to pay half of the total revenue collection for debt servicing of these loans.
He further stated that the government is heavily indebted and this was the consequence of corruption and tax evasion. He said the government will tackle the menace of corruption and sought the people's cooperation in tax collection.
He said unless the public and government cooperate with each other, the debt trap will not end. The Prime Minister urged the people to avail the asset declaration scheme in order to take the country out of debt trap.
He said the asset declaration scheme provides an opportunity to declare the undisclosed assets and wealth parked abroad and home as well as gold and other assets.
The Prime Minister said Rs 5.5 trillion is needed to be collected as taxes in the next fiscal year. He said Pakistanis are generous in giving charity and have a history of contributing massively in national calamities. He said if the citizens cooperate, Rs 8,000 billion revenue can be mobilised every year.
The Prime Minister further said now the FBR possesses complete record of all assets of the people and declaring assets would be a wise thing to do.
